Let’s Get Social
Durham Children’s Aid Society met with MP Juanita Nathan to highlight the agency’s ongoing commitment to supporting children, youth, and families who identify as part of the Asian diaspora.
The discussion highlighted Durham CAS’s leadership in equity-driven practice, the role of research in shaping responsive services, and its continued focus on service excellence.
MP Nathan expressed strong interest in the agency’s efforts to strengthen culturally grounded supports and advance equitable outcomes for Asian communities across the region.
Today on Children and Youth in Care Day, Durham CAS recognizes the strength, voices, and stories of children and youth in care.
As they continue #RisingInStrengthAndStory, we remain committed to walking alongside them and supporting every step forward.
For all the incredible caregivers and everyone in a mom role, you are seen and loved. Happy Mother`s day.

Last week, we rolled out the red carpet to celebrate our staff and the impact they make every day. Staff Recognition was an opportunity to thank our colleagues for their care, commitment, and teamwork in supporting children and youth to thrive in their families and communities. Congratulations to our long service award recipients and thank you to every staff member who shows up for children, youth, and families across our community.
In Canada, Indigenous women make up 16% of all female homicide victims and 11% of missing women, yet Indigenous people make up only 4.3% of the population.
Red Dress Day, May 5, is a day of remembrance for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2-Spirit folk. Indigenous women, girls, and 2-spirit folk face a disproportionate amount of violence compared to non-Indigenous folk, and empty Red Dresses are hung in remembrance of the people who are not able to fill them.
Today we partnered with Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Servies to welcome staff from both our agencies and our community partners to share, listen, learn, mourn and hear stories not just stats. This powerful day of sharing is just one step toward justice.

What a privilege to be part of such a great evening! Several of our staff attended Bethesda House’s 21st Annual Dinner & Auction; it truly was an evening of purpose, connection, and impact. It was a great honour to be recognized as a community partner and to be part of the announcement of our growing partnership and enhanced services. It was our pleasure to attend and celebrate the great work Bethesda House does in support of women, children, and their pets as they rebuild their lives after experiencing violence. It was also a time to listen, reflect, and learn, with inspiring speakers and conversations with our many community partners. Congratulations on a great event!

As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we’re grateful for the moments we shared along the way. Earlier this week, we came together for our Volunteer Luncheon — sharing a meal, playing games, and celebrating the volunteers who help strengthen our community every day. 💙
This National Volunteer Week, we’re proud to celebrate incredible dedication and service.
Congratulations to Gary, who was recognized with his 40‑year Ontario Volunteer Service Award this week — and who is actually marking 42 years of volunteering, having started volunteering in 1984.
Thank you, Gary, for decades of commitment and impact in our community. 💙
For 25 years, Jeremi’s volunteer journey has been guided by a deep belief in safety, stability, and support for children and families. 💙
“Volunteering with Durham Children’s Aid Society for 25 years has been both a privilege and a responsibility. It represents a deep commitment to community well being, child advocacy, and public service.”
Thank you, Jeremi, for 25 years of service, grounded in compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to children, families, and community. 💙
For 35 years, Mary has been showing up as a volunteer driver, finding joy in the drive, the places she’s visited, and the connections made along the way. 💙
“I have so many positive memories of all the children I have driven, the best part is when they see you a few years later, they remember you and you think WOW I must have made a positive impact in their life.”
Thank you, Mary, for 35 years of dedication. Your care, consistency, and presence have made a lasting difference, one drive at a time. 💙
