At our Foster Parent Recognition Dinner, our foster caregivers were of course the stars of the evening. It was their night to shine. But right up there with celebrating our caregivers, a highlight of the evening was Spider Jones.
Spider is a renowned radio and tv broadcaster, journalist, author, and motivational speaker. A former amateur boxing champion, his background has influenced his dynamic communication style and his commitment to youth mentorship. Jones is widely celebrated for his advocacy work, particularly his efforts to helping youth overcome adversity through his Believe to Achieve initiative. https://www.believetoachieve.ca/
It was an honour and privilege to welcome Spider as our keynote speaker at our foster caregiver celebration. Thank you, Spider, for your encouragement and celebation of our foster caregivers.

We invite you to join us in celebrating our foster caregivers as we share some of their stories and photos during National Foster Family Appreciation Week.
The impact of foster caregivers is immeasurable. We couldn’t say it better than this quote from one of our foster caregivers: “We have the opportunity to make a profound difference in these children`s lives. It is an honor and privilege to watch them grow, to witness their resilience, and to play a role in shaping their future. Being foster parents is not just a duty for us; it`s a deep-rooted calling, a testament to our love for every child who enters our lives.”

This is National Foster Family Appreciation Week. Foster caregivers provide safe, temporary care for children and youth, and play a fundamental role in supporting families when they need a helping hand.
We recently celebrated our foster caregivers at our annual Foster Caregiver Recognition event. This event is always a very special evening where we come together to formally acknowledge the incredible wisdom, care, passion, skills and tireless dedication that they provide.
Please join us as we share the stories and photos of our foster caregivers. If you have ever thought about fostering, please contact us at foster@durhamcas.ca.

On this Dress Purple Day, our staff are wearing purple as a symbol of caring and collaboration. Protecting children is a community responsibility; we need your help to ensure every child’s right to safety and wellbeing. In addition to physical safety, we must also work to ensure all youth are supported in their community and that we protect their rights and honour their identities. Helping children and youth develop strong connections can lessen their vulnerability and can help them recognize where to turn when they need support. One of the many ways you can be that help is by becoming a volunteer or foster caregiver. Please contact us to get involved.
#DressPurpleDay #DPD2025 #DurhamRegion
Dress Purple Day is a campaign to raise awareness about the supports and services available in communities across Ontario. It is an opportunity to highlight the importance of community-based organizations, service providers, teachers and healthcare professionals working to provide early intervention and prevention services to children, youth, and families that may need some support. The campaign also reminds children and youth that they have rights to safety and well-being in all spaces, including at home, at school, and in their community. Today we are wearing purple as a reminder for children and youth that they are not alone. We show them that a strong network of caring adults and community resources is ready to support them and their families. Learn how you can help at https://durhamcas.ca/help/
