General Motors Canada and its Dealers Donate More Than $143,000 to Durham Children’s Aid Foundation, Surpassing $1 Million in Total Support
GM Canada, together with its nationwide dealers network, is celebrating a 20-year partnership with the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation (DCAF), marked by over $1 million in total contributions. This year alone, GM’s generosity reached a donation of over $143,000 to support children, youth, and families in need.
This year’s contribution includes $71,000 donated by GM dealers across Canada, and more than $72,000 in gifts and monetary donations from GM Canada and their employees. These funds directly address emergency needs, such as housing, groceries, clothing, and school supplies, ensuring vulnerable families in Durham Region have access to essential resources during their most challenging times.
“For two decades, GM Canada has been a true partner in transforming the lives of children and families in our community,” said Julie Van Hartingsveldt, executive director of the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation. “Their generosity, more than $1 million since the partnership began provides hope and support when it’s needed most. From Sharon Clark’s inspiring legacy to the dedication of GM employees and dealers, this partnership continues to be a true example of kindness and compassion. We are so grateful.”
This holiday tradition honours the legacy of Sharon Clark, who started Sharon’s Kids at Oshawa Assembly in 1968 to provide holiday gifts to children in need. Since 2018, GM Canada, its dealers and employees have raised more than $1 million for Sharon’s Kids, now part of DCAF.
“For 56 years, GM employees and dealers have come together with generosity and commitment, contributing over $1 million to support families in need. I am incredibly proud of our employees and dealers, who continue Sharon Clark’s legacy of making the holiday season truly special for children and families in the Durham Region. It’s an honour to be involved in a partnership that makes a lasting impact, bringing hope and joy to our communities.” — Kristian Aquilina, GM Canada president and managing director.
