We believe that Indigenous children must have an equal opportunity to grow up with their family, in their community and in their culture. No Indigenous child should have to forgo this opportunity as a result of poverty or an inability to access basic services.
We are proud that we have a dedicated Indigenous multi-disciplincary team, including a lawyer, to work directly with our region’s Indigenous population.
The program is designed to ensure that all of our services are provided to the region’s Indigenous population in a manner that respects their culture, traditions, and needs, both on and off reserve.
Our staff participate in the Indigenous Advisory Circle for Durham Region, meet with The Mississauga of Scugog Island First Nations on a regular basis, and participate in various functions within the surrounding community.
The Society ensures regular information sharing with the Indigenous community about the provision of services.
Our community partners are assisting us in providing high quality child welfare services for our Indigenous families.
